As I'm catching up on some emails at the desk, I hear this little conversation in the background. I look behind me and Shea is nestled into daddy's lap watching basketball and repeating everything he says.
Daddy: The Phoenix Suns are lame.
Shea: The Pemix Suns are yame.
Daddy: Stoudemire's a thug.
Shea: Stotemire's a sug. Hee hee
Daddy: Rajabel is a ghetto rat.
Shea: Raja's a ghetto rat. Hee hee hee (by this time he thinks he's really funny as Chris and I are both cracking up.)
Mommy thinks it's bedtime!

ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure that if you haven't won a championship in your entire 40 year history, you can't be called a true anything... except maybe disappointment. But I guess if you live in Arizona, disappointment is just part of life.
ReplyDeleteWatch yer mouth, Chris! I love little Shea. He does the funniest things ever!
ReplyDeleteWhat time on Thanksgiving would be good for me to call you and wish you a Happy Thanksgiving? Before or after ASU beats USC? As long as we are talking AZ/CA rivalries we cant leave that one out! GO SUNDEVILS!!!
ReplyDeleteConsidering that ASU lost to the only decent team they've played this year, I wouldn't get too excited. You know, it's always surprised me that ASU isn't better in sports... I mean if academics aren't a concern, what is? But really, can we call it a rivalry if one side obsesses while the other couldn't care less? To the typical Californian, Arizona is just that big, dusty patch of nasty, hot beige we have to cross to get to New Mexico. I mean, isn't "Arizona" the Anasazi word for "not even Mexico wants this land?"
ReplyDeleteTHIS JUST IN:
ReplyDeleteThanks to their high percentage of foreign born players, the phrase "Phoenix Suns" has replaced clutching the throat as the international sign for choking.
To all my dear friends and family who live in Arizona and may attend or have attended ASU, I apologize for my husband who thinks he's funnier than he really is. (Although the international sign for choking comment did make me laugh.) :-)
ReplyDelete"Considering that ASU lost to the only decent team they've played this year". Well at least its good to know that you have come to terms with UCLA, USC, and CAL's lack of ability this year.
ReplyDeleteWell, as for UCLA, our coach sucks and we're literally on our 5th string "QB," so... no expectations. (Our BB team is, as always, a force to reckoned with.) CAL, I think that's just punishment for Longshore deciding not to go on a mission. As for USC, um... they haven't played yet, so your comment makes no sense. They will be the second decent team to beat ASU. If you ignore the fluke, Hail Mary loss to Stanford, embarrassing, but by no means an accurate representation of UCS football, ASU and USC lost to the same team. Besides, ASU padded their non-conference schedule. If they had played real teams they'd have lost 3 by now.
